"Here is the church
Here is the........whoops!"
1st Southern Baptist Church in Twin Falls is in need of a Steeple Repairman!
Our steeple is leaning and the result is that we have a serious leakage problem
in the church kitchen everytime it rains or snows. It also makes the exterior
of the church look neglected.
We have very limited funds to repair this and are hoping to find someone to
donate their time and expertise.
Hopefully it won't be long before we can finish our rhyme,
" Open the doors..SEE ALL THE PEOPLE!"
If you can help please call Pastor K at 208-404-2116!

- Dear Collegiate Ministry Leader,
I am writing to ask that you consider bringing a group of
students to New Orleans during the 2006-07 school year. Many
of you brought groups to the Gulf Coast last year, and we are
grateful for your concern. Through the efforts of hardworking
college students, thousands of Gulf Coast residents received
assistance gutting out their homes. Nearly 10,000 college students
provided well over $10 million in volunteer labor.
I hope that you might consider investing in the long-term
recovery of New Orleans. Through the Baptist Crossroads Project,
First Baptist New Orleans plans to coordinate the construction
of up to 300 homes in the Upper 9th Ward of New Orleans. Last
summer nearly 3,000 volunteers assisted in the construction
of 30 homes. We hope to build as many as 20 homes during Spring
Break 2007. We want to invite your group to come to New Orleans
and participate in this exciting rebuilding effort.
Here are
some of the details for the project:
Lodging/Meals
The North American Mission Board is offering lodging and meals (3 meals per
day) at their Volunteer Village for $20 per student/per day. The Village has
space for only 500 volunteers, so do not delay in calling. Please call 504-362-4604
or toll free at 877-934-0808 to make reservations. When you call be sure to
tell them that you will be working with the Baptist Crossroads project.
If you
are not able to secure lodging at the Volunteer Village, we will work with
you to find suitable accommodations.
Schedule
We suggest that groups follow this schedule:
Saturday – Travel to New Orleans
Sunday – Worship and orientation (afternoon is free)
Monday-Friday – Work days (workday concludes around 3:30
p.m.)
Saturday – Return Home
You are not required to work the entire week. If your team is only available
for a portion of a week, that will be fine.
Other Fees
First Baptist New Orleans does not charge volunteers.
Transportation
Groups are asked to secure their own transportation. The work
sites will be in one general area, so you should be able
to transport your students easily. While 10-15 passenger
vans are ideal, large buses will work fine.
Tools/Attire
Habitat for Humanity provides most of the tools at the worksite.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring “small” tools
(hammer, tape measure, nail apron, construction pencil).
All volunteers should have shoes that are closed toe and
closed heel (tennis shoes work great). Shorts are permitted
on the job site. Ladies are asked to wear modest tops (tank
tops are okay, but they should have wide straps) and men
must keep their shirts on.
Site Visits
Many of you may wish to visit New Orleans prior to your mission
trip to gain a greater understanding of the project. We welcome
these visits. We will offer at least 4 opportunities for
site visits through mid-February. The dates will be posted
on our website (www.baptistcrossroads.com) when it has been
updated.
Project Promotion
We are developing a promotional packet that should be completed
soon. Members of our ministry team are also available to
speak to your ministry group about the project. To request
a packet or to request to have one of our team speak to your
group, please email Diane Villemarette (diane@firstbaptistneworleans.com).
We
will provide you with more detailed information once your group
registers. We are in the process of updating the project
website. To register, please call (504.482.5775) or email our
office (volunteer@firstbaptistneworleans.com). Please remember
that you make your lodging arrangements directly with the North
American Mission Board.
If you have any additional questions,
please contact our office.
